DIY Avocado, Mayo, Olive Oil Hair Mask

Need an easy and natural hair treatment? Then ya gotta try this one! It’s our go to hair mask, our holy grail and although we love trying new ones, we always come back to this. A fresh blend of avocado, mayonnaise and olive oil.

Now, I have to be honest, I’m a little biased and pretty obsessed with avocados, but for a good reason. It’s been a lifesaver when trying to eat clean and I really enjoy adding this luscious veggie (botanically its really a fruit though) to EVERYTHING, including my hair. I was excited to find out that avocados are not only healthy for my body but super healthy for my curls. They’re rich in nutrients and proteins, vitamins and minerals. Considered a major super food, the amino acids in them will help heal and nourish a dry and itchy scalp, making it great for those with dandruff. Avocados also combat split ends, and adds shine and luster to coarse, dry hair. A must ingredient for all of us curly girls.

It actually took me by surprise when I started using avocado oil on my hair and it worked wonders. My hair usually doesn’t react well to oils due to a naturally oily scalp. I can end up with limp curls if my locks get too much oil. Things like Moroccan and Coconut oil are often hailed as magic in a bottle for curls, but it doesn’t really work for me. Kind of my life story =) So I decided to take it a step further and tried a hair mask with real avocados and olive oil since it’s a lighter oil and added full fat mayo.

Messy? Well…yes, but these are all such awesome ingredients! Olive oil is extremely moisturizing and contains antioxidants and vitamins. It’ll thoroughly condition and strengthen your curls and scalp. Mayonnaise is known to repair dry and damaged hair. Mayo often gets a bad wrap when ya throw a pound of it on a sandwich but it actually contains natural and healthy oils that will help to moisturize frizzy and brittle hair. The vinegar in the mayo will also restore the pH in your hair to healthy levels, always our number one goal.

This is now my go to monthly DIY curly cocktail. It’s not only easy, fast and inexpensive, but it WORKS!
